YORK THURSDAY NIGHT PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS : HAMMER IN COASTAL HIDEAWAY MISSES OUT ON TOP SPOT

Star of Thursday Night Premier League Darts Jase "The Hammer" Holtby mysteriously disappeared to a coastal safehouse amid speculation that he was "losing his bottle" mumbles and murmurings dominated the early conversation this week as the "Hammers" disappearance seemed like it was about to overshadow the first meeting of the season at The Gilchrist Arena. However, as it should be the arrers did the talking as the electric atmosphere soon reached fever pitch. First up Martin "Scared o You" Hill,54, versus one of the new boys Mick "The Brickie" Reeves, despite having drunk his own weight in cider and falling over the oche a few times "Scared o You" managed to hold his own throughout the match when others in a similar state would have struggled to hit the board. This was a ding dong affair tooing and froing with both arrer technicians giving it their all. Evenly matched throughout, the game ended in an honourable draw 3-3( Can you tell yet from the sparse detail that I never actually watched this one). This result putting a temporary halt on Scared's charge for top spot. With the Gilchrist Arena packed to the rafters and shaking at its foundations,( please note that the Gilchrist Arena is a garden shed and with the 2 players and a scorer it was full) what came next was exactly what the TNPLD deserves,a match of incredible scoring and superb drama. The Destroyer fresh from regaining top spot and seemingly redeveloping the aura befitting the reigning champion could not have predicted the next twenty minutes of blistering action from none other than King Curly himself Mr Rock n Roll, legs 1 and 2 went to Rock n Roll then the destroyer grabbed one back only for the curly one to go immediately 3-1 up, these first four legs were completed in an average of 16 darts top drawer stuff, the tension then hit both players as Rock n Roll proceeded to oust the Destroyer who briefly fought back to 3 -2. Final result Rock n Roll 4 Destroyer 2. Both players giving an exhibition of darts that probably deserved a draw. On came The Spears up against the tat machine Double Top both players seemed a little edgy trying to gain the upper hand and in a game so tight and difficult to call neither could relax a muscle. After quite a while (and thats being polite) and using up two scorers (Mickie who was nodding off had to be replaced by Jon) the game ended in a 3-3 draw which was a fair reflection. Next up old Lethal v The Brickie, given Lethals previous starts everyone settled down for a long opening leg and they were not disappointed, another 60 dart tie break resulted in The Brickie taking a 1-0 lead. The onlooking members of the TNPLD feared the worst but could not have predicted what would come next, after changing his bag, a result of too many lagers and realising he was way past his bedtime Lethal produced an amazing 4 leg burst including a 12 darter to take the spoils and shake the league right to its core. Yet again the TNPLD has thrown up its surprises and who can now predict the final outcome to this sensational season. Good arrers
