Paul Woodall getting a bird, Neal Bell on a slimfast diet, Lee Teddy Rooke having a shave, someone hitting 180 in the TNPLD, all things we thought could never happen but last Thursday Jase "The Hammer" Holtby achieved the impossible with composure and finesse he achieved the maximum, the big one the tonaitee. How many more shocks could there be, I will hand you over to our match reporter ..........The Hammer
Thank you Jon.
What a remarkable night Thursday night was at the Ally-PALly. A night of turn arounds, bounce outs and drama as The destoyer finally succumbed to his first defeat and the first competition 180 flew in.
The first game was contested by Lethal Weapon and The Bachelor. Jon who missed last weeks game had a point to prove after his dismal start to the season. Pablo could end up bottom of the league if he lost this game.Well it certainly started slow, the first game been a 60 darter going to Jon. It was a going to be of "what ifs" as the dreaded bounce out board came into action. And that didn't fail to deliver unlike the quality of darts that were on show. Pablo took a leg back but the crowd didn't respond in fact they didn't even take a smidgin' of notice as Jon carried on to win 4-1. Pablo now sunk to the depths of last place in the league and Jon winning a much needed game to start climbing up again.
Big game of the night or so we thought. This was Scared a' You vs the undefeated heavyweight The Destroyer. With Belly hammering the opposition all season there were only a couple of players that could knock him off his high horse, Mart been one of them. Could he succeed where others had failed?
Bounce out galores could not ruin this game, Mart winning the first leg with an emphatic 17 darter, and then the second leg with another sub 20 dart finish. Belly quaking like a little girl at her first day at nursery couldn't believe his luck. He was now propper babbing em, but with home advantage turned the game round to 2-1(i think).. More sub 20 darters and bounce out galores along with a few 140's. But with both players taking another leg each Mart led 3-2. Could Belly retain his undefeated record, NO, he crumbled to Martin 4-2 but with the arrows been thrown even Phil Taylor would has struggled to contain Hill,49. Belly had to gather his composure now as he had "CHUMP" Rich to play later.
Third game The Hammer vs The Spears. With Bret back to winning ways and Jase finding last years form this was surely a game that would be talked about for yonks. Chinny on jack flap, this was one of those games that nothing was going to go. With no game taking less than 24 darts it was certainly all down to "jammyness" on who finished their doubles. Fortunately Jase could finish and Bret couldn't leaving Jase with a 4-0 win, certainly should not have been but thats how the cookie crumbles. Jase now in top spot had a propper boncon with excitement.
Oh and by the way Jase did manage a 180, not that anyone was bothered so just to tell you again 180,180,180,180,180,180,180. GET IN WHOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big showdown next as Double Top took on Lethal weapon in a mid-table madness match. Dan trying to up the ante even more after beating brother Rock n' Roll last week and Jon winning his first match for a while earlier on in the night were both out for a valuable 2 pts. It was a great match up with both players showing league winning form. First Dan with a 16 darter and a 97 checkout and then Jon with a 13 darter this was surely going to be a tight affair. It ended up 3-3 with Jon not looking happy and with Dan glad to be taking a point it seems that the old man didn't adhere to the warnings given to him about the shark known as double top.
Last game and certainly not least was The Destroyer against Shmo-key. This was a bang on cert that Belly would take home all 3 points with rich trying to implement damage limitation to keep himself off the bottom. How wrong we all were. Rich flew into a 3-1 with some cracking finishing and with Belly not able to hit a barn door with a bull Rich capitalized on Bellys unfamiliar brand of crap darts. With Belly in shellshock along with the rest of the kitchen, was this going to be the upset of the season or even the tournaments history? Mmmmmm kinda, because no one could even see Rich getting a point from this, but Belly bounced back, like all our darts in his dart board to claim a 3-3 draw knocking him into second place in the league, after all the hype surrounding the reigning champ it seems he is human after all, not like Rich who took home superman status and was practically flying home as he was that high on the win.
